Frequently Asked Question
What is a Padron?
The Padron is simply the local electoral roll, and is held at the Town Hall.
Details entered into the Padron are confidential, but the total number of entries determine how much of an annual subsidiary is received by the Town Hall. We therefore urge all residents onsite to register at the Town Hall.
If you want to buy a car in Spain you will need to produce a certificado de enpadronamiento, which you can only get if you are registered on the Padron. This is in order to register the car tax to your address.
Getting on the Padron is very simple, you just have to go along to the Town Hall with your passport or NIE number and ask to be put on it. They will take down you details and give you a confirmation that you are registered.
By registering on the Padron you are also entitled to vote in local and EU elections every 4 years.
